Rural/Metro Fire Department has been providing fire and emergency medical services to Pima County residents since 1974.

Rural/Metro operates on an individual basis with most residents of Sahuarita. This means fire protection and emergency medical services are not paid for through taxes and residents are responsible for establishing fire service directly with Rural/ Metro Fire.
Area residents living in a Fire District do not need to set up an individual account.
In Sahuarita, Rural/Metro has one primary responding fire station, bringing the total in Pima County to 12. There are six firefighters on duty at all times.
