Rural/Metro Fire Department has been providing fire and emergency medical services to the residents of Yuma County since 1969.

Rural/Metro operates on an individual basis with the residents of uncorporated Yuma County. This means fire protection and emergency medical services are notpaid for through taxes and residents are responsible for establishing fire serivce directly with Rural/Metro Fire.

In uncorporated Yuma County, Rural/Metro has seven responding fire stations, bringing the total in Yuma County to 12. Rural/ Metro Ambulance also provides EMS/transport services for the City of Yuma Fire Department and in San Luis.

There are eleven firefighters on duty at all times, in addition to a large reserve force. Rural/ Metro also has a Jet Ski Water Rescue Team patrolling the waterways and providing Emergency First Aid to those who need it on popular weekends and holidays.

Rural/ Metro Fire crews in the City of Yuma area are led by Division General Manager Gary August and Fire Marshal Curt Foster.
